The History Buff Man

I was born in Peterborough in 1944 married my wife Sheila in 1975. Retired in 1998 through ill health. Worked for local builder merchant and then went into the electrical trade but after a bad industrial injury I managed to work for five years then had to give up work. I joined the Royal British Legion in Yaxley and became the Poppy Appeal Organiser. Started researching my wife's maiden name 'Limming' Sheila was born in Crowland. I found that her great, great, grandfather was a publican in Crowland this was the start that inspired me to write the book on the 'Jackdaws of Crowland'. With lots of research and help from local people and organizations I was able to put the book together.

Introduction to

'The Jackdaws of Crowland'

This all started years ago when I was researching my wife’s maiden name for research in the history of her family name of LIMMING. I found out that her great, great, grandfather was landlord of the White Horse public house in Crowland. I found that they were many inns and public houses in Crowland so I began to make a list of these and the landlords. Then after years of research I was talking to people about this and they said it should be turned into a book. While I was doing my research I came across a piece about the 1947 floods in Crowland so then I decided to add this to my book, so now I have found so much information it is now becoming a small part history of Crowland.

My next book is called

'The Mailman of Crowland'

This is the life story of Mark Middleton born in Stamford Lincolnshire in 1841 died in 1883. He was a mail cart driver for the Royal Mail. He was married to Emma Sharpe they had   nine children Mark had an accident on Peterborough town bridge and after a long illness he died in Lincoln Asylum aged 42. This all started by reading a article in the local paper by Percy Hall which was shown to me by Mick  Masters from records kept by his late wife. I contacted Mrs M. Cary. Percy Hall was her father she showed me all the documents that her father kept on Mark Middleton. After seeing these I suggested that it should be turned into a book having given permission in writing   and consent of the living relatives I started to write this book. So this is the life of Mark Middleton.

“IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFORMATION ON THIS PLEASE CONTACT ME AND I WILL INCLUDE IT IN THE BOOK”
